Summary

This grant program is open only to nonprofit organizations. The foundation supports nonprofits that are working to improve quality of life in their communities, helping them grow, strengthen their capacity, or improve their impact.

The grants are “catalytic” in nature, meaning that proposals should aim to help an organization reach a higher, more sustainable level—not just maintain the status quo. Projects that are most competitive tend to demonstrate clear outcomes, strong leadership, good financial practices, and a solid plan for organizational growth or program expansion.

There are two application cycles each year, with deadlines in early March and early September. If you apply once, you must wait at least two years before applying again, regardless of whether your previous request was granted or declined.

For larger requests—especially those at or above $500,000—there is a requirement for a pre‑meeting with foundation staff before the application can be submitted (and this applies ahead of the Fall cycle in recent years). There are also information sessions offered before each cycle, and applicants (especially new ones) are encouraged or sometimes required to attend.

The application must be submitted online through the grant management system. The forms request standard material: organizational background, financials, description of what you want to do with the funds, what impact you expect, etc. Late submissions or those not using the required system are not accepted.

Overall, benefits beyond the money include potential strengthening of organizational capacity, building sustainability, improved planning under uncertain funding landscapes, and being part of a funder community that cares about mission, impact, and resilience.

If you are located in Pennsylvania and working in the area of Quality of Life, this funding opportunity may be a good fit. For more relevant grant options that support your work and priorities, visit The Grant Portal and use the Search Grant tool to find opportunities.
