Biomedical and Health Research Grants for Innovative Projects in Pennsylvania (USA)
GrantID: 75082
Grant Funding Amount Low: $600,000
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $700,000
Summary
A U.S.-based grant is available for scientific research institutions that are tax‑exempt 501(c)(3) non‑profits. The purpose is to fund early‑stage, basic research projects: those that lay groundwork for medical discoveries rather than clinical trials or product development. Eligible organizations include independent educational institutions with fully equipped labs and investigators; private individuals, for example, are not eligible. The research areas of interest include immunology, structural biology, cellular physiology, genetics/genomics, microbiology, infectious disease, neuroscience, stem cell biology, and related fields; certain areas are excluded, such as vaccine development or clinical trials.
The grant funds are sizeable: applicants may request up to roughly $600,000 to $700,000 for a three‑year project, inclusive of indirect costs (which are capped at 10 %). Equipment costs over a certain threshold are not approved; student tuition or fees generally are not covered. A detailed budget, project summary, proof of concept or related work, and other supplementary materials are required.
The process is competitive. Institutions must first nominate investigators from their organization. Then those nominees submit Letters of Intent, followed by full proposals if invited. The timeline runs on a fixed cycle (for example, spring and fall deadlines), and selected applicants generally find out within about five to six months after submission.
In essence, this grant is intended to support nonprofit scientific research institutions in the U.S. doing foundational, innovative work in biomedical fields, giving them significant funding to pursue ambitious projects that could lead to new discoveries.
